I enjoy exploring how I can utilize oil paint to mimic the way light and color interact. The way various light can alter the perception of objects, cutting through their contours, creating areas of contrast between light and shadow. Ribbons of color meandering their way throughout a composition, creating a web of colors that define various objects. The flowing nature of the ribbons, exploding from starbursts, produces a pulsating sense of repetition. That repetition of fluid, organic shapes contrasts the sharp, repetitive geometric elements, seeking to find balance in a chromatically saturated world.
I attempt to create a world that is comprised of familiar objects – only altered to convey the way I perceive color. A world that may include said familiar objects, only situated in a chaotic world of turmoil and fury. These paintings illustrate various life experiences I have encountered. At first glance, I want my audience to be weakened by that feeling of disorientation. As they move closer towards the canvas, they are sucked into the detail and web of colors that I have applied.
